That's not to say the majority of the population will not rely on cars, but there's much we can do to reduce our dependency on cars. We should design communities in a way that they naturally lend to transit, walkability and cycling. ![]() ![]() What changes do you foresee to land-use and zoning and how might these changes impact our ability to support current residents and enable new residents to live, work and play in our municipality? Much of our planning revolves around cars and not people.ĥ. We must design the region to move people instead of cars. What are the most important things that need to happen to accommodate increased numbers of people requiring mobility as our region is expected to grow to a population of nearly 1.1 million in 2051? We have an opportunity to do things right the first time around so we don't have to go back and retrofit older roads.Ĥ. What would be your priorities for investments in improving street safety and connectivity for residents? How would you fund these priorities? We have to think of moving people via a multimodal transportation system so residents do not always have to rely on their cars.ģ. How do you feel about the transportation options currently available in our municipality? How will you make it so residents can affordably get where they need to go? The idea behind traffic calming is to design streets in a way that the traffic naturally travels at the speed limit.Ģ. My main area of focus would be to pilot a safe street project to implement a number of traffic calming strategies I've been advocating for. ![]()
